Social networks in Russia

Social networks are the second popular source of information among Russians. The number of users continues to grow. Vkontakte remains the most popular network but is losing its users. TikTok is growing the fastest.

Russians’ feelings

Russians more often noticed the growth of aggression and depressive moods among those around them. Personally, the growth in satisfaction and self-affirmation is noticed more frequently.

Top January events

The main event of the month for almost half of Russians (45%) was the protests. The pandemic and Alexei Navalny’s return to Russia (11-12%) were in second place by a wide margin, while another 7% mentioned events in the United States – the inauguration of Biden and the storming of the Capitol.

January protests

80% of Russians know about recent protests associated with the arrest of Alexey Navalny. These are the most significant figures for protests in recent years. The attitude towards the protesters this time is worse than towards the participants in other protests. The number of people waiting for new protests has reached its highest values since 1998. At the same time, the desire of respondents to take part in protests is decreasing.

The film “Palace for Putin”

Up to a quarter of Russians have seen the film “Palace for Putin”. At the same time, the film had practically no effect on the respondents’ attitude towards the president. A third are sure that the information in the film is untrue, more than half – that it may be true to some extent.

The return of Alexey Navalny

The activities of Alexei Navalny are approved by 19% respondents and disapproved by 56%. Over the past months, the level of approval of the politician has not changed, the level of disapproval has increased. Younger respondents and Internet users have the best attitude, while older age groups and television viewers show the worst.

Presidential ratings and the state of the nation

Compared to the end of the last year, there were no significant changes in the evaluation of the state of affairs in the country and approval of the activities of the main authorities. At the same time, the level of trust in the president has slightly decreased.

The coronavirus: fears and vaccination

More than a half of Russians fear of contracting the coronavirus. However, 58% are not ready to get a vaccine. The respondents explain their reluctance by the fact that the vaccine is not ready yet and concern about side effects.

Navalny’s poisoning

Most Russians (78%) are aware of poisoning of Alexey Navalny, although less than 20% follow the developments.
