Top May events

In May, Russians most remembered the tragedy at the Kazan school – 35%, various holidays (May Day, Easter, Victory Day) – 7%, events related to coronavirus and vaccination (6%), as well as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict (3%).

Tragedy at the Kazan school

Almost all Russians know about the tragedy that occurred at the Kazan school on May 11. Half (53%) of respondents closely followed the events, 44% at least heard something about it.

Presidential electoral ratings

The presidential electoral ratings have not changed. The top four remain the same: Vladimir Putin, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Gennady Zyuganov, and Alexei Navalny. According to the results of the Moscow poll, Alexei Navalny came in second place.

21 April protests

Most Russians (72%) are aware of the protests on April 21. This is less than during the January protests. The share of those who have a positive attitude toward the protesters decreased. Young people and readers of new media have a better attitude toward the protesters. Older age groups and television viewers have worse attitudes.

Moscow politics – trust in institutions

The level of approval of the authorities among Muscovites is almost unchanged. The activities of the mayor are perceived better than those of the deputies of the Moscow City Duma and municipal deputies.

Coronavirus and vaccination

56% of Russians are not afraid of contracting the coronavirus, while 42% are afraid. These numbers have not changed since February 2021. Fear peaked in the spring and fall of last year. The restriction of air communication with Turkey

Most Russians are aware of the restrictions on air travel to Turkey. Half of Russians support this decision, one-third do not support it. Mostly older age groups of respondents support the decision, while younger groups do not. 44% of respondents believe that the decision is intended to protect Russians from the coronavirus, and 41% think it is a political decision.

Top April events

In April, Russians remembered most of all Putin’s address to the Federal Assembly. Respondents also paid attention to the news about Alexei Navalny, the deterioration of the situation in Donbas and the deterioration of relations with the West.

Escalation in southeast Ukraine

Half of Russians (48%) believe that the United States and NATO are to blame for the escalation in eastern Ukraine. Equal proportions of Russians (43%) believe that Russia should or should not intervene in the conflict on the side of the DPR/LPR in the event of a large-scale war. Intervention is mainly supported by older groups of respondents, while young groups do not support it. The majority (65%) would support the DPR/LPR joining Russia if asked to do so.
