Assessments of social well-being in January 2023

Assessments of respondents’ personal well-being remain positive. Most often, respondents say that recently they have gained hope, a sense of pride for their people and confidence in the future. At the same time, the first signs of an increase in negative trends have emerged in the assessments of the mood of others – this is evidenced by the analysis of long-term trends.

In January, the predominant personal feelings of respondents were “hope” (35%), “pride for their people” (34%) and “confidence in the future” (18%). In assessing the feelings of people around them, “pride for their people” (35%) and “hope” (30%) dominate. At the same time, the analysis of long-term trends shows some peculiar features.

For the convenience of displaying and analyzing data in dynamics, the survey results were divided into three enlarged categories: 1) aggression, resentment (bitterness, fear, resentment, despair, envy, resentment for their people), 2) satisfaction, self-affirmation (hope, dignity, confidence, freedom, pride, responsibility), 3) depression, asthenia (fatigue, confusion, loneliness, shame). The data is recalculated for each measurement.

Throughout 2022, positive assessments of personal well-being prevailed, in January the situation did not change: 71% of respondents spoke about satisfaction and self-affirmation. The level of depression and aggression decreased slightly compared to May – to 27% and 28%, respectively.

At the same time, the first signs of an increase in negative trends are noticeable in the assessments of the feelings of others: the proportion of respondents who talk about strengthening positive feelings in others has slightly decreased compared to May last year. At the same time, the proportion of those who talk about the growth of aggression and depression in others has somewhat increased.
