The August measurement recorded a significant increase in confidence in all state and public institutions compared to last year. Similar sharp sentiment changes were observed in 2014. The president, the army, the state security agencies, the government and the church enjoy the greatest trust today.
The main political institutions
There is an increase in confidence in the main political institutions: the president – from 53% (2021) to 80% (2022), the government – from 33% (2021) to 55%, the State Duma and the Federation Council – from 25% (2021) to more than 40% (2022).
The army, law enforcement and the court
After last year’s decline, trust in law enforcement agencies has sharply increased this year: 77% of respondents trust the army (in 2021 – 61%), 61% — state security agencies (in 2021 – 45%), 41%— police (in 2021 – 29%).
The church, media and charities
Trust in the church and religious organizations returned to the level of 2014 – 51%. Media trust continues to grow: 27% in 2019, 35% in 2020 and 2021, 41% this year. Trust in charities has also increased significantly – from 36% to 49%.
Economic organizations
Among economic organizations, small and medium businesses enjoy the greatest amount of trust (42%) – an increase of 9% compared to 2021. The least
METHODOLOGY
The survey by the Levada Center was conducted August 25 – 31 2022, among a representative sample of all Russian urban and rural residents. The sample was comprised of 1612 people aged 18 or older in 137 municipalities of 50 regions of the Russian Federation. The survey was conducted as a personal interview in respondents’ homes. The answer distribution is presented as percentages of the total number of participants along with data from previous surveys.
The statistical error of these studies for a sample of 1600 people (with a probability of 0.95) does not exceed:
3.4% for indicators around 50%
2.9% for indicators around 25%/75%
2.0% for indicators around 10%/90%
1.5% for indicators around 5%/95%
