Only 29% of respondents know that on January 20 in Nizhny Novgorod Chechen policemen detained and took Zarema Musayeva to Chechnya. At the same time, 70% of respondents considered unacceptable the words of the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov addressed to the Yangulbayev Family. Half of Russians approve of Ramzan Kadyrov’s activities, a quarter disapprove. 16% of respondents would be ready to support the petition by Ilya Yashin demanding resignation of the head of Chechnya. 28% wouldn’t be ready, 47% are indifferent to the issue.
In February 2022, about half (49%) of Russians approved of Ramzan Kadyrov’s activities, 27% disapproved. In March of 2016 he was supported by 26% of respondents (-3% compared to 2022), 22% disapproved of him and his actions (-5%% compared to 2022).
The age groups of 18-24 and 25-39 show the lowest level of approval of the head of Chechnya: 36% and 41% approve of him, 35% and 34% disapprove of him, respectively. Representatives aged 40-54 and 55 years and older have approximately the same approval level: 54% approve, 22% disapprove and 23% disapprove, respectively.
70% of Russians rate the statement of the head of Chechnya in relation to the Yangulbayevs that they are waiting for a place “in prison or underground” as unacceptable, 14% find it acceptable.
16% of respondents rather support Ilya Yashin’s petition demanding the resignation of the head of Chechnya, 28% rather do not support, about half (47%) are indifferent.
Those who noted television as the main way of obtaining information showed the least support for Ilya Yashin’s petition: 13% rather support, a third rather do not support. The greatest support is among the readers of Telegram channels: 30% of them rather support, 15% rather do not support. Among other categories, according to the method of obtaining information, the level of support for the petition is about 20%, while the largest share of those who rather do not support prevails among radio listeners (37%) and readers of print publications (35%).
METHODOLOGY
The survey by the Levada Center was conducted January 17 – February 21, among a representative sample of all Russian urban and rural residents. The sample was comprised of 1626 people aged 18 or older in 137 municipalities of 50 regions of the Russian Federation. The survey was conducted as a personal interview in respondents’ homes. The answer distribution is presented as percentages of the total number of participants along with data from previous surveys.
The statistical error of these studies for a sample of 1600 people (with a probability of 0.95) does not exceed:
3.4% for indicators around 50%
2.9% for indicators around 25%/75%
2.0% for indicators around 10%/90%
1.5% for indicators around 5%/95%
