56% of Russians are not afraid of contracting the coronavirus, while 42% are afraid. These numbers have not changed since February 2021. Fear peaked in the spring and fall of last year. In October 2020, 64% were afraid of being infected, while 34% were not.
62% of respondents are not ready to be vaccinated with the RussianSputnik V vaccine. This figure remains unchanged since February 2021, but the number of vaccine supporters has declined slightly over the year. A quarter of respondents (26%) are willing to vaccinate, slightly less than in February (30%), with 10% of respondents saying they have already vaccinated. It appears that the number of supporters of vaccinations is decreasing primarily at the expense of those who have been vaccinated.
As in February, in April 2021 the vaccine is most popular among those who fear contracting the coronavirus, as well as among older age groups. Thus, in the group of 55 years and older, 37% are ready to be vaccinated, among respondents 18-24 years – only 12% (75% are not ready). At the same time, in the group of respondents 55 years and older 13% responded that they have already vaccinated themselves. Among those who fear contracting the coronavirus, 35% of respondents are ready to be vaccinated, while 53% are not. Among those who are not afraid of getting infected, only 18% are ready to be vaccinated and 70% are not.
This survey was conducted April 22 – 28 2021, among a representative sample of all Russian urban and rural residents. The sample was comprised of 1614 people aged 18 or older in 137 municipalities of 50 regions of the Russian Federation. The survey was conducted as a personal interview in respondents’ homes. The answer distribution is presented as percentages of the total number of participants along with data from previous surveys.
The statistical error of these studies for a sample of 1600 people (with a probability of 0.95) does not exceed:
3.4% for indicators around 50%
2.9% for indicators around 25%/75%
2.0% for indicators around 10%/90%
1.5% for indicators around 5%/95%
